Die englische Fachzeitschrift The Strad hatte über den Preis und seine Preisträgerin schon im Juni berichtet, nun konnte Irena Josifoska aus den Händen von Kulturstaatssekretär Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hardeck den Villa Musica Stern 2025 entgegennehmen.
Preisverleihung beim Tag der Musik
Es war ein festliches Intermezzo mitten im Trubel des Musiktages am 7. September. Bei der Preisverleihung des Villa Musica Sterns 2025 blieb die Zeit eine gute Stunde stehen, um den Blick ganz auf die wunderbare Cellistin Irena Josifoska zu lenken. Sie erhielt den mit 5.000 Euro dotierten Preis aus den Händen von Kulturstaatssekretär Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hardeck, assitiert von der FREUNDE-Vorsitzenden Barbara Harnischfeger. „Wir wollen mit diesem Stern die Klassikstars von Morgen auszeichnen,“ sagte der Staatssekretär. „Ich freue mich, dass die Freunde der Villa Musica diesen Preis nun schon seit so vielen Jahren stiften – ein Musterbeispiel für ehrenamtliches Engagement.“ Prof. Hardeck dankte auch der Leifheit-Stiftung aus Nassau, die in diesem Jahr das Preisgeld in Höhe von 5.000 Euro übernommen hatte.
Prof. Ervis Gega, die Künstlerische Leiterin der Villa Musica, hatte die Preisträgerin ausgewählt und lobte Irena Josifoska in ihrer Laudatio als überaus agile, unglaublich wandlungsfähige Cellistin, die spielend alle Stile beherrscht und großen Teamgeist ausstrahlt. Sie hat sich in so vielen Villa Musica-Projekten ausgezeichnet wie kaum eine andere Stipendiatin der letzten Jahre. Um nur drei zu nennen: An der Seite ihres Berliner Professors Jens Peter Maintz brillierte sie als Barockvirtuosin in Vivaldi-Konzerten, an der Seite von Frans Helmerson tauchte sie tief in die Geheimnisse des Schubert-Quintetts ein, mit dem Weltklasse-Geiger Svetlin Roussev spielte sie im dritten Klaviertrio von Brahms.
In der Steinhalle des Landesmuseums bedankte sich Irena Josifoska bei der Villa Musica, den FREUNDEN und dem Publikum mit drei wunderschönen Interpretationen, am Flügel begleitet von Viktor Soos. Nach ihrer Rachmaninow-Elegie, der kapriziösen C-Dur-Sonate von Beethoven und der traumhaft schönen Franck-Sonate meinten treue Kundinnen der Villa Musica: „Eigentlich müsste sie drei Sterne bekommen, nicht nur einen!“

Cellist Irena Josifoska wins 2025 Villa Musica Star Award
The Serbian cellist wins €5,000 in recognition for her musical versatility
Serbian-born cellist Irena Josifoska has been announced as the recipient of the 2025 Villa Musica Star Award. The award is endowed with €5,000 and is given to an outstanding scholarship holder of the State Foundation Villa Musica, which operates in the German state of Rheinland-Pflalz. Josifoska has been a participant of Villa Musica’s chamber music projects since 2022 and is a master’s student of Jens Peter Maintz in Berlin. Her previous awards include first prize at the Domenico Gabrielli Cello Competition in Berlin, an honorary mention at the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann, and was the youngest semi-finalist of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2017. She performs on a 1790 cello by William Forster Senior, on loan from the Villa Musica Foundation.
Artistic director of Villa Musica Ervis Gega commented on Josifoska’s award: ’Irena is an extremely agile and versatile musician. She can adapt to any stylistic context: from Baroque performance practice to the soft, romantic tones of Schubert or Schumann, as well as the powerful, resonant sound of the sonata repertoire. ’She radiates a great deal of positive energy and embodies team spirit in the best sense of the word – for me, she is an ideal laureate of the Villa Musica Star Award.’
Villa Musica was founded in 1986 by the Rheinland-Pfalz government with participation of Southwest German Radio (SWR), providing a top-level educational and concert programme for young professionals in the field of chamber music. Its scholarship programme at Schloss Engers Academy in Neuwied provides opportunities for around 80 young professionals to work with renowned instructors, performing in the local region as well as Berlin, Brussels, Prague, and other destinations.
